European Documentation Centre
Facilitating cooperation between Central Asian and European Union universities
About European Documentation Centre
The European Documentation Centre was established in 2005 on the initiative of the Embassy of the European Union in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. It is a Regional international network in Central Asia for research and documentation, whose purpose is to facilitate cooperation between teachers and staff of Central Asian universities and the European Union, responsible for collecting and disseminating information, as well as for advisory work.
Members of EDC are: European Documentation Centre in Kazakhstan (at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University), European Documentation Centre in Kyrgyzstan (at J. Balasagyn Kyrgyz National University), European Documentation Centre in Tajikistan (at Russian-Tajik Slavonic University).
The European Documentation Centre (EDC) is a regional platform for knowledge exchange and cooperation between universities in Central Asia and the European Union. Since 2005, the Centre has been promoting best practices in higher education, supporting international academic projects, and providing expert consultations on quality assurance and curriculum development.
EDC organizes seminars, conducts analytical research, publishes reports and reviews, and actively participates in international programs, including Erasmus+. It also assists universities in developing project proposals and implementing innovative approaches in education.
Our Activities
EDC's activities mainly cover three areas:
Seminars
Seminars are held on topics of common interest, including those related to higher education reform in Central Asia, creating a common educational space in the Region, and establishing cooperation with European universities and organizations in the field of education.
Surveys
EDC can ask questions on a specific topic or several problems of improving the quality of education. The answers are collected and placed in the EDC database. On particularly important issues, EDC can publish a comparative analysis of the situation in individual countries.
Publications
EDC publications include: periodic publications (information about interesting events in leading international universities; Activity Report – annual report on EDC activities), and ad hoc publications accompanying thematic seminars.
Funding
EDC’s activities were initially funded by the Embassy of the European Union in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, and partially by the funds of the universities where the European Documentation Centres are located. Erasmus+ projects finance EDC’s activities indirectly, for example by including the center in the project as a partner responsible for disseminating the project results among stakeholders.
